CHARLOTTE -- The reviews are in and many of the country's top critics say a new TV show shot in the Charlotte-area, is a hit.
The first episode of the Showtime series “Homeland” aired Sunday night featuring a number of familiar locations including Freedom Park and the former Philip Morris Plant in Concord.
Monday morning, the cast and crew were back to work shooting scenes at Marshall Park in Uptown Charlotte.
"It's a good opportunity and it's also a lot of fun,” said Colleen Metts, who brought her eight-year-old son Dashiell from Columbia, S.C. to be an extra.
Monday's shoot included lead actress Claire Danes and an explosion in the middle of the crowded park.
"Everybody here loves it of course and we are thrilled that the reviews are just incredible," said Beth Petty, Director of Film for the Charlotte Regional Partnership.
Petty played a major role in bringing the series here, contributing to the nearly half-billion dollar economic impact for the region.
"It's the first major TV series that we've recruited to the Charlotte region. We've tried for a long time and this is our first one so we are thrilled that they're here," added Petty.
As shooting for the first season of 'Homeland' continues, the feature film “Hunger Games” is wrapping up after filming at a number of locations around the area as well.
Both shoots, hired thousands of local crew members and extras.
"They chose the Charlotte region because it was a very film friendly community, it was just the right mix of locations, we had the crew base and the infrastructure here to support them," said Petty.
Homeland airs Sunday at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
The scenes filmed Monday will air sometime in the next few months. Showtime says it's still too early to tell if the series will be picked up for a second season.
