CHARLOTTE -- Researchers say the size or our brain may have something to do with your religious preference.

Duke Medical Center recently released a study that says as humans age a part our brain shrink, but that shrinkage is more prevalent in born-again protestants, Catholics, or those having no religious affiliation.

The study also points out people who have had a life changing religious experience were also found with considerably more brain shrinkage than people who did not.

Tim Helms is the pastor of Lighthouse Church. He says he's not offended by the study. He says it's a good thing the Bible is easy to understand.

“Some people will read this as there is some truth to it,” said Helms. “I looked at it just saying that I'm thankful that the size of my brain doesn't effect where I stand with the almighty God.”

The co-author of the study, David Hayward says people shouldn't consider one type of religion or practice as harmful to the brain.
