DURHAM -- Leaders from state government and the health care industry come together Wednesday to discuss medical costs and health care reform as part of the North Carolina Chamber’s 2011 Health Care Cost Symposium at the Fuqua School of Business. This is a chance for employers, providers and payers to discuss costs as our country's health care reform continues to change in this political and economic climate.
They're calling it "improving current mechanisms for health care delivery and financing regardless of health care reform."
The panel of insurance company leaders, hospital administrators and employers will work to answer the questions of how much will continuing reform cost, where does the money go and how can they work together to improve it. North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Keith Crisco will help lead the discussion.
Blue Cross Blue Shield Chief Medical Officer Dr. Don Bradley says he hopes the panel can surface the underlying issue of rising health care costs. He says 85 percent of insurance relates to the medical expense.
"We really need to get to more of the root causes of what's driving our health care expenditures, and we need to do that sooner rather than later," said Bradley.
