RALEIGH --State lawmakers want to keep plastic bags out of landfills. Wednesday marked the kickoff of the "A Bag's Life" campaign. It calls for residents to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever and wherever they can.

"The bag is not the problem," said Rep. Ruth Samuelson. "We are the problem when we choose not to reuse those bags or figure out a way to recycle."

A website and a phone application are available that show the public how and where to recycle bags.

North Carolina is the fourth state to participate in the campaign.
