RALEIGH -- Thousands of athletes will descend on downtown Raleigh this weekend for the third annual City of Oaks marathon.

The annual event features a full and a half marathon. Last year, more than 4,000 runners took part in the race.

Officials say the course design allows runners to enjoy the diversity and natural beauty of the capital's rich southern history.

Dozens of streets around the course will be shut down throughout the morning on Sunday. Click here for a complete list of road closures.
