GREENSBORO -- To help the recently unemployed get a leg up on their competition at upcoming job fairs and interviews, Charlotte-based Heels.com surprised dozens of women with a shoe giveaway Tuesday morning at Greensboro's JobLink Career Center.
Job seeker Brenda Renkains got a new pair of flats that she liked so much, she wore them straight from her fitting to JobLink's Work Net session.
It's a weekly networking group that helps with everything from resume writing to career scouting and dressing for success come interview time.
“Many of those who are recipients of the shoes are in need of the shoes. They don't have proper dress to go out and interview, so having this resource is just great," said Valerie Horton, with Greensboro’s JobLink Career Center.
For job seeker Becky Lassiter, who's been out of work for two months now, this gift served as a much needed pick-me-up as well.
“People have been all smiles, and it's just been so neat to see that it's really touched their hearts and that they need things today that touch their hearts," Lassiter said.
From Greensboro, Heels.com headed to Morganton, N.C., to host a second giveaway of the day and plans to hold more throughout the state in the near future.
